Learning Film Group

Learning Film Group. Russian Sounds, 2011. Learning Film Group (Nikolai Oleinikov, Sonya Akimova, Pavel Arsenev and Dmitry Vilensky) meet the public to talk about the making of their newest film.

Learning Film Group is a collective of creative workers with a changing membership.

Film concept: Dmitry Vilensky (Chto delat)

Screenplay, camera, and editing: Sonya Akimova and Max Kulaev (DSPA); Pavel Arsenev, Dina Gatina and Roman Osminkin (Laboratory of Poetic Actionism); Thomas Campbell, Nikolai Oleinikov and Dmitry Vilensky (Chto delat); Oleg Zhuravlev.

This film elaborates cinematic, auditory and narrative devices developed by Jean Luc Godard in his film "British Sounds" (1969) and develops them in relation to the pre-election realities of Russia in 2011. Godard's film appeared at a peak of revolutionary enthusiasm in British political life and became a manifesto of agitational films capable of describing the totality of social change in their dialectical development. How can we critically share in its pathos, inspiration and aesthetics today, in such reactionary times?
